A counter movement to curb suicides among farmers:
Vidarbha region of Maharashtra experienced many suicides among farmers in the recent past. The relief measures taken by the Central and State Governments are not reaching the victims in the farming sector. The CNI-SSI as it has been working in the rural area developed its 12.5 acres of land as a counter movement to search answers for these helpless victims and suicides.
The Ecumenical Rural Agriculture Development Center (ERADC) at Khandala village 18 kms away from Nagpur has all the features of a Training Centre for organic farming. And to promote appropriate/indigenous technologies in the field of farming including technologies of watershed developments. In a course of time the ERADC has trained 700 farmers and facilitated them into farmers supportive groups. And Self Help Group of farmers were formed. Vermi culture and production of compost fertilizer, bio-gas, zero chamber for cold storage are some of the main features.
As ERADC promotes new experiments hence Jetropha is planted in 1 acre of land on experimental basis for the promotion of bio-diesel
