WOMENS MEET HELD UNDER UMMEED |

Church Of North India social Service Institute has taken up the task to create awareness among the citizen of Nagpur city concerning the solid Waste and related issues. With CHF International [Community Habitat Finance] and Nagpur Municipal Corporation as partners in this venture “UMMEED”.
According to a survey conducted by the CNI SSI and the CHF international there are approximately 5000 waste collectors in Nagpur city . Accordingly number of initiatives is taken up in 18 selected slums for these waste collectors to help them lead a dignified life.
In this context CNI-SSI has organized a women’s meet of Self Help Group on 31st July 2010 at Lalit kala Bhavan, Kamptee Road Nagpur. The objective of the meet was to bring all the 70 Self Help Group together. It was also an opportunity for the Self Help Group to share their experiences in the journey of two years since they were formed.
The programme began with introduction and welcome of the guest by Mrs. Bharti Charan, Coordinator, UMMEED. Mr. Ranjit Ambastha, Senior Programe Manager, CHF International, Mr. Vilas Shende Director, Mure Memorial hospital,Ms. Anupama from NCCI, Mrs. Avanti Shirpurkar,Rev. S. Parajnyothy, Director, CNI-SSI and Mr. Bhimkar from Kachra Vechak Maajdoor Jan sanghthan were present on this occasion.
The Mr. Vilas Shende laid emphasis on qualities that strengthens the self help group and also how these Self Help Group can be instrumental in bringing about change in society through their initiatives. While Mr.Ranjeet Ambastha Mentioned that Self Help Group of the waste collectors can negotiate with local bodies to get the work done, now being done through private contractor. Ms. Anupama mentioned the need of self identity and knowing the self capacity which in turn could be strength of Self Help Group . Mr. Bhimkar motivated the gathering by sharing the need of being united for the struggle and movement. Rev. S.Paranjyothy, Director, CNI-SSI mentioned the next step of the Self Help Group being the formation Cooperative of waste collectors and encouraged the women of Self Help Group to be united and aware on emerging issues for bring about the social change.
Approximately 500 women members of Self Help Group under UMMEED were present. Mrs. Bharti Charan conducted the proceedings of the programme while Mrs. Aradhana Upadhyay Programme Manager, UMMEED proposed vote of thanks. The programme concluded by inspirational song. |

A Health check up camp for UTTHAN Project Children |

The CNI-SSI has organized a Special Health check up camp for the children of Utthan project in Antoji nagar and Suraj nagar on 23rd and 24th of July 2010. A team of 3 Doctors including Dr. Gajanan Sonkusale, Dr.Arti Manjare and Dr.Poornika from Mure Memorial Hospital conducted the health check up of 130 children and medicines was provided according to findings. The major diseases found are viral fever, cold and cough, some children detected skin problems and some were anemic.
The children having skin problem were sent to Mure Memorial Hospital for further treatment. The team of Utthan Mrs.Sangita Dip, Coordinator, Mr.Ashish Dongre, SRA, Ms.Rashmi Singh, CDA and Mr.Gouthamkanth Gummadi, Accountant alongwith volunteers worked hard to make this camp successful. |

Specialized Health check up camp organised under UMMEED project |

Under Ummeed project a Specialized Health check up camp for children was organized on 21st July 2010 at Chikli slum and 22nd July 2010 at Rahate slum & Rambagh slum with the support of Mure Memorial Hospital, Nagpur
The objective of these health check up camps is to aware the people on rainy season diseases and what precautions can be taken during the season for protection. Around 134 children were benefited through these camps. After check up required medicines were also given to them and 3 children were given tetanus injection.
The outcome of these camps was children protected from serious illness and the khelwadi teacher’s are teaching the children what precautions to be taken to protect from rainy season diseases. |

General Health check up camps organised under UMMEED project |

Under Ummeed project a General Health check up camp was organized on 27th July 2010 at Rambagh slum, on 29th July 2010 at Savitribai Phule nagar and 29th July at Kaushalyan nagar with the support of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Health Department.
The objective of these health check up camps is to aware the people on rainy season diseases and what precautions can be taken during the season for protection. Around 176 people were benefited through these camps.
The outcome of this activity is that the confidence of the people increased and they submitted a letter to NMC for regular cleaning of their slums and the cleaning work started from the department. |

A Safety Kits distribution to waste collectors of Yashodhara nagar |

The CNI-SSI has organized a safety kits distribution programme under Ummeed project for the waste collectors at Yashodhara nagar on 21st July 2010. Around 125 waste collectors were benefitted through the distributed safety kits consists of a pair of shoes, one iron rod, one mask, a cap and a scarf. The objective of this safety kits distribution is to protect the waste collectors from injury held during collection of waste. The distribution held in the presence of Mrs.Namita Korkanti, Office Secretary, CNI-SSI Mrs.Shanta Barsagade, Community Enabler, Mr.Nitin Sahare and Mr.Sanjay Nitnawre. |

An Exposure Visit of Unnati Mahila Federation Members to Chandrapur |

The CNI-SSI has organized an exposure for the women’s of Unnati Mahila Federation between 13th to 15th July 2010 at Chandrapur. The objective of this visit is to know the functioning of other SHGs Cooperative Society and how the Unnati Mahila Federation can improve their functioning and grow in days to come. Mrs.Usha Niswade and Mrs.Shanta Barsagade from CNI-SSI alongwith 5 women of Unnati Mahila Federation participated in the exposure. |

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME CONCLUDED
AT SNEHDEEP NAGAR |

CNI-SSI has started Mobile Vocational Training Centre for slum dwellers of Indira Nagar and nearby localities at Snehdeep Nagar. The objective to start mobile Vocational Training Centre at Snehdeep Nagar was to reach the masses who cannot afford to come to the main campus at Sadar for training purpose. The centre is mobile in nature and will be shifting to another new slum in every six months. The courses started in the unit are Electric Machine Embroidery, Electrician, Beautician & Zardozi.
The centre not only aim s to provide the vocational skills to the youth but also encourages the youth to start their own business for which entrepreneurship Development programme is part of the syllabus. In this context series of session on entrepreneurial skills on were conducted at mobile training centre of the CNI-SSI. The concluding session of programme held on 24th July 2010 where Mr. Arun Kumar Mathur, Retd, Manager of purchase department from WCL was resource person.
The
Programme began with welcome and introduction of guest by Mr. David Yohans. Mrs. Aradhana Upadhyay share about concept of Mobile Vocational Training Centre, Mr. A.K Mathur in his session laid emphasis on essential qualities of entrepreneurs and marketing strategies. Rev.S.Paranjyothy, Director CNI-SSI encouraged the trainees to initiate their own enterprise. Trainees shared their experience about training and EDP sessions. Approximately 60 people including trainees and MTC staff participated, those present in from CNI-SSI were Mrs. Namita korkanti ,Mr. Pramod Meshram and Mrs, Mohitra Vemul.
